True devotion doesn’t end when we step outside the sacred walls. In "Beyond the Temple Gate: Worship and the Practice of Sincerity," Saurabh Thakore reminds us that rituals are not mere routines—they are gateways to cultivating a deeper, authentic inner life. When we bring sincerity into our daily actions, every moment becomes an act of worship.

Reflect: How can you take your devotion beyond the gate and into your world?

When Devaki Met Krishna in Goa
(Author: Beloo Mehra)

Did you know there is a unique temple in Goa where Sri Krishna is worshipped not with Ma Yashoda, but with his birth mother, Devaki?

Situated in Marcel, Goa, the Devaki Krishna Ravalnath Temple holds a rare and beautiful deity: Ma Devaki holding baby Krishna in her arm. Legend speaks of an enchanting meeting on Gomanchala Parvat, where Krishna assumed his infant form (Balakrishna) solely to grant Devaki the pure Ananda of witnessing his childhood līla.

Beyond its deep spiritual meaning, the temple carries a resilient history—having survived centuries of Portuguese rule through the steadfast devotion of villagers who safeguarded the deity across Goan waterways to Ponda.

Discover the history, architecture, and spiritual significance behind this sacred sanctuary!

November 6-7, 2026 was celebrated as Dhanatryodashi or Dhanteras. It is also celebrated as Ayurveda day. Here is an interesting conversation a few disciples had with Sri Aurobindo, dated 21 December 1938:

****

Purani: It is said of Dhanwantari that whenever he used to stand before a plant, the plant used to reveal its properties to him.

Sri Aurobindo (smiling): He was the physician of the Gods; so that is nothing unnatural for him.Ayurveda was the first system of medicine. It was from India that this science went to Greece and then to Arabia. Indian physicians used to go to Arabia. What Hippocrates and Galen speak of as the three humours is an Indian idea. India also discovered the use of the zero with mathematical notations. Astrology too went from India to Arabia.

Nirodbaran: At Calcutta, people are trying to found Ayurvedic schools. That will be better, for it will be a combination of Eastern and Western systems, especially in anatomy and surgery.Sri Aurobindo: Why? Anatomy and surgery were known to Indians. There were many surgical instruments in ancient India. Besides, for ancient things like Ayurveda I don’t believe in this modern system of schools and colleges. They make the whole thing mental and intellectual, while the ancient systems were more intuitive. In India they used to hand down such things from Guru to disciple. It is the same with Yoga. One can’t think of Yogic schools and classes. They are an American idea.
