Inculcating Spirituality in Children with Poornima Murugesan on 24-26 February

Poornima was brought up in Pondicherry, a place quietly shaped by the Presence

and Vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. This environment, along with her

own journey of self-reflection and inner healing, deepened her sensitivity to

children’s emotional and inner worlds. She has worked with children in schools in

Canada and is currently living there while pursuing her Master’s in Counselling

Psychology. She hopes to grow into the role of a psychotherapist and, over time, a

child psychologist, combining psychology and spirituality through mindfulness-

based therapy to support children and families with a greater care. She is also a

registered Bach Flower Therapist (UK) and a certified Montessori teacher. Inspired

by the integral vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, Poornima approaches her

work with humility and openness, seeing herself as a learner and companion. Her

intention is to offer gentle, safe spaces, where children and adults can re-connect

with an inner awareness, balance and trust in their own unfolding.

Inculcating Spirituality in Children

In today’s fast-paced and externally driven world, many children are becoming disconnected from their inner world. This workshop is a gentle and conscious offering for anyone who wants to make a conscious effort in making a change and who wish to support children’s spiritual growth not as a belief-system or religion, but as a lived inner experience.

Rooted in the Integral vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, the workshop explores how spirituality can be naturally woven into a child’s daily life through Integral Yoga. This approach honours the body, emotions, mind and inner essence as one whole, and supports children in growing with awareness, sincerity, inner quiet and joy without pressure or imposed practices.

At the heart of this work is the understanding that children already carry a deep inner awareness. As The Mother reminds us, “From their infancy, children must be taught that there is an inner reality —within themselves, within the earth, within the universe — and that they, the earth, and the universe exist only as a function of this truth.” In this light, the adult’s role is not to teach spirituality, but to create the conditions in which a child’s inner light can be protected, nourished and allowed to unfold naturally.

Drawing from Integral Yoga principles, child psychology and conscious living, this workshop offers simple, age-appropriate, and non-dogmatic ways to support children’s inner growth. Through gentle practices, reflection and everyday examples, participants learn how to support emotional balance, presence, sincerity and inner strength in children.

What the Workshop Will Explore

  • Understanding spirituality in children through the lens of Integral Yoga
  • Sri Aurobindo and The Mother’s vision of conscious growth in children
