How draining it is to be always thinking about one's own self! Ever tasted that? - My life, my image and respect, my story, my drama, my thought, my judgment, my opinion, my likes and dislikes, my wants and needs and lacks and prosperity….
To keep thinking about one's own self all the time is misery; we all know this misery. It is a poison that seeps into every aspect of our life. It divides, it separates and it makes us selfish in so many subtle ways that we don't even fathom. This 'self-cherishing mind' is what we need liberation from, as is repeated in the teachings of the Buddha.
How can I become conscious of the self-cherishing mind? I can't, if I am not tired of it, if I haven’t not suffered enough from it.
This workshop calls out to those who are now done with it, or those who now are ready to see the self-obsessive thoughts and feelings that they are occupied with. And once realising the misery of self-preoccupation, are ready to leap into the great remedy — the freedom of self-forgetfulness.
"Be courageous and do not think of yourself so much. It is because you make your little ego the centre of your preoccupation that you are sad and unsatisfied. To forget oneself is the great remedy for all ills." —
