“One learns things better if one writes them.”
(The Mother, CWM 17: 146)
This newsletter features a selected author from
Renaissance, with links to two or three of his or her writings. This will help our readers stay acquainted with the richness of the content we regularly feature. As we bring this newsletter, we are also conscious of Sri Aurobindo’s important reminder -
“There should be no ‘desire’ to be a ‘great’ writer. If there is a genuine inspiration or coming of a power to write, then it can be done but to use it as a means of service to the Divine is the proper spirit.” (14 May 1934).

M. P. Pandit served as the personal secretary to the Mother at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. He studied the classical scriptures and living spiritual traditions of India, following in the footsteps of Sri Aurobindo and Shri T.V. Kapaly Sastry. His writing career spanned six decades, publishing over 150 books and many articles on subjects as diverse as philosophy, spirituality, social and political thought, science, religion, mysticism and the classical texts themselves.

Read here two excerpts from M. P. Pandit’s book titled, Commentaries on the Mother’s Ministry, Vol. 1 (1983), published by Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Meditating on who the Mother is, opening oneself to Her Force, giving oneself to Her entirely so that She may make of us what She wills — this is the true worship to be offered at the feet of the Divine Mother by all those who have turned to Her.

The 6-part essay by M.P. Pandit, which summarises some of Sri Aurobindo’s commentaries on the Isha Upanishad, was originally published in the 1955 annual issue of Sri Aurobindo Circle. The first introductory part highlights Sri Aurobindo’s comments on translating the Upanishads, and the errors made by Max Muller and other Indologists who fail to capture the spirit of the scripture because they lack the inner vision of the Truth expressed in scripture.

In this excerpt the author explains King Aswapathy’s visions of the “world-pile”, “mountain chariot of the Gods” and “the single stair to being’s goal” and beautifully connects them to the image of a temple tower.

“The art of good writing consists in knowing how to be silent. The things you don’t say are far more important than the things you do.”

Join us on this 5-week journey as we examine the nature of love and human relationships using a deeper psycho-spiritual view. No human experience is insignificant in the wider view of life and existence that has been given to us by great yogis, sages and seers such as Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. We find highly relevant insights on almost all aspects of life in their writings and teachings. Through this course we shall together explore and reflect on some of these insights as applicable to the topics of love and human relationships. |
